TEXT

Modifier is Sean Kerwin and Chris Shelswell, two musicians living on opposite sides of the earth, creating electronic music. Between Glasgow in Scotland and Auckland in New Zealand lies eleven thousand miles. Summer is winter and day is night. A world apart. Through uploading and downloading, ideas are dissected, forged and progressed. Works grow organically despite their entirely digital form. Modifier is the process and the result of this, becoming a kind of collective consciousness that is greater than the sum of its parts.

A chance meet at University heralded the beginning of this working relationship between Kerwin and Shelswell. A love of music, a desire never to have a boss and a goal of making the perfect sounding record brought them together. After school, they went to work in The Doghouse recording studio and on tour with Industrial producer Rico before taking different paths in the sultry depths of the music business, trying to earn a crust.

Modifier are producing music with depth that transcends both club and home listening environments. Modifier represent an amalgamation of musical style and genre but refuse to be consumed by it. With undertones of electro, techno, house, industrial and IDM, they focus on melody and texture for definition. Drawing on the soul, Modifier is about conveying emotion, whether that is sadness or energy, melancholy or paranoia. Ultimately it's about the music, so turn it up and tune in.
